Apologies for the late post this week, still trying to get to grips with the blog.
Anyway, moving on to Tuesday night's fixture away at Aldershot Town. For any normal fans this would be just like any other fixture. However, for me this was a fierce rivalry with one of my housemates and close friends who is an Aldershot fan. After our usual pre-match banter we were eagerly excited to arrive at the EBB stadium and watch this thrilling match.
Southend's starting 11 was same as their previous team that defeated Gillingham 2-1. After a short spell without gaining a victory, Paul Sturrock has managed to bounce back with two consecutive victories. On the other hand, Aldershot had won there last three back to back fixtures. Southend were looking for revenge from their previous encounter on Boxing Day which was abandoned at half time for floodlight failure in which they were leading 1-0 and Aldershot were down to ten men.
What was expected to be a thrilling encounter resulted in only one shot on target from both teams. A bitterly disappointing display from Southend United; they were poor going forward and could not string three passes together which can be seen as Aldershot dominated position. Southend had a poor five shots with none hitting the target.
A goal in the first half and a second half penalty saw Aldershot take the three points. It seems as though Southend have suffered a blimp in the race to promotion as the chasers are closing in with games in hand. Tomorrow's game at Morecambe will be a big match for Paul Sturrock as a loss will see them drop into the play offs for the first time in 2012.
As for the rivalry, Dale Wright, you took round one but we will see who comes out best after 90 minutes at Roots Hall on Tuesday 20th March.
That's all for now,
Thanks

Southend United v Crewe Preview
After a well earned three points away at Gillingham on Monday night, Southend will be looking to add to the tally that has put them top of the league (on goal difference)! Manager Paul Sturrock will be looking to have a happier end to the day at Roots Hall tomorrow after some disappointing results at home in recent week (only one home win in eight games)!
In the past fives seasons, these teams have met on several occasions with Southend triumphing four times compared to Crewe's three. Crewe go into the game on the back of a 3-2 win against Burton last weekend. Their position in the table does not give them justice as they are capable of beating anyone on their day. I can see Paul Sturrock fielding the same starting 11 from Monday depending on winger David Martin who suffered a foot injury Monday evening.
If Southend can produce the same display in the first half against Gillingham then I am sure that they can secure the win. It seems as though Sturrock has made his mark on the players since their poor run of four games without a win which they overcame on Monday. I can see this being a good display from two footballing sides so this could go either way. My prediction for tomorrows game is a tight 2-1 win for the mighty blues. Let's hope that they can produce another good performance and consolidate their position at top of the table.
That's all for now,
Thanks,
Carl

Southend United vs Gillingham
So guys this is my first time trying something like this so be patient! I am open to any ideas or suggestions that might help me with this.
So this evening saw my local team, the mighty Southend United (a team I have supported since birth) playing away to our close neighbours Gillingham. As a supporter of a lower league team it's always a great opportunity when the match is being shown on the big screen and I was thrilled to watch it.
In recent weeks Southend have gone through a patchy spell of four losses in five games which is bitterly disappointing since their history matching 17 games unbeaten earlier in the season in which they claimed top place. They were up against an also out of form Gillingham who had missed out on the action for the past two weeks due to severe weather so the players were eager to get back onto the field and win the three points.
It was bound to be a good display of two footballing sides hit by a lack of form hoping to claim a win in front of millions of sky sports viewers. Let's just hope they don't crack under the spotlight. Southend started well and managed to take advantage in the ninth minute with a low drive from Liam Dickinson. Southend doubled their lead on the half hour mark when a good run down the left wing from JP Kalala resulted in a Martin own goal from Kalala's low drive into the box.
Gillingham took control in the second half looking to reduce the deficit. Tomlin managed to score a consolidation in the 87th minute but it was too little to late for the Gills. Southend managed onto hold to the lead after 5 minutes stoppage time and grab those 3 vitals points which puts them top of the league for at least 24 hours. Let's hope this win can spur the blues to go on for another unbeaten run
Anyway that's all for now folks.
Thanks you.
Carl
