Southend United vs Gillingham

So guys this is my first time trying something like this so be patient! I am open to any ideas or suggestions that might help me with this.

So this evening saw my local team, the mighty Southend United (a team I have supported since birth) playing away to our close neighbours Gillingham. As a supporter of a lower league team it's always a great opportunity when the match is being shown on the big screen and I was thrilled to watch it.

In recent weeks Southend have gone through a patchy spell of four losses in five games which is bitterly disappointing since their history matching 17 games unbeaten earlier in the season in which they claimed top place. They were up against an also out of form Gillingham who had missed out on the action for the past two weeks due to severe weather so the players were eager to get back onto the field and win the three points.

It was bound to be a good display of two footballing sides hit by a lack of form hoping to claim a win in front of millions of sky sports viewers. Let's just hope they don't crack under the spotlight. Southend started well and managed to take advantage in the ninth minute with a low drive from Liam Dickinson. Southend doubled their lead on the half hour mark when a good run down the left wing from JP Kalala resulted in a Martin own goal from Kalala's low drive into the box.

Gillingham took control in the second half looking to reduce the deficit. Tomlin managed to score a consolidation in the 87th minute but it was too little to late for the Gills. Southend managed onto hold to the lead after 5 minutes stoppage time and grab those 3 vitals points which puts them top of the league for at least 24 hours. Let's hope this win can spur the blues to go on for another unbeaten run

Anyway that's all for now folks.
Thanks you.

Carl
