After a well earned three points away at Gillingham on Monday night, Southend will be looking to add to the tally that has put them top of the league (on goal difference)! Manager Paul Sturrock will be looking to have a happier end to the day at Roots Hall tomorrow after some disappointing results at home in recent week (only one home win in eight games)!
In the past fives seasons, these teams have met on several occasions with Southend triumphing four times compared to Crewe's three. Crewe go into the game on the back of a 3-2 win against Burton last weekend. Their position in the table does not give them justice as they are capable of beating anyone on their day. I can see Paul Sturrock fielding the same starting 11 from Monday depending on winger David Martin who suffered a foot injury Monday evening.
If Southend can produce the same display in the first half against Gillingham then I am sure that they can secure the win. It seems as though Sturrock has made his mark on the players since their poor run of four games without a win which they overcame on Monday. I can see this being a good display from two footballing sides so this could go either way. My prediction for tomorrows game is a tight 2-1 win for the mighty blues. Let's hope that they can produce another good performance and consolidate their position at top of the table.
That's all for now,
Thanks,
Carl
